Default Powerchip chip upgrade

I am thinking about getting a Powerchip DME upgrade for my 1988 944. The company claims a hp gain of about 15 hp and about 13 tq if you get a chip designed for only using 93-octane fuel. DO any of you guys have any experience with these chips if so what do you think? Do you think their power gain claims are reasonable?

Thanks.

Not in an N/A - doesnt matter who made the chip. Look for something that fixes the idle stumble - and expect to lose a little low end torque and gain maybe 1-2 hp tope end, as well as raising the rev-limiter. Its not really worth it, unless you can pick it up for 15 or 20 bucks. imo

SO i guess that means they are not really the $360+ asking price. WHere do they get those 15 hp numbers they advertise from then? Isn't that kind of unfair to say that it ads that much hp if it really does not.

Those HP claims are with perfect conditions, perfect engine, and perfect gas.
If you look hard enough you should find the disclaimer (your results may vary)

Most companies use BHP, or HP measured at the crank for their claims. And they are usually still exaggerated. And sometimes they will also add other modifications that aren't mentioned in the claim.

I don't make HP claims, at all. If a customer sends me a dyno chart, or I have dyno charts generated during the development stages, I post them as actual RWHP made on a real car, from a real person.

Having said that, I don't really care what the peak HP numbers are from my products. I tune to get the most out of the car from all ranges. You spend most of your driving time in the part throttle maps, and you can't see that on a typical dyno run. The WOT map is just 16 cells to modify. But the part throttle is at least 12X12 (144) cells to manipulate, so I do the most work there. The end result as you will hear from anyone who has any of my turbo or NA products is improved driveability across the board. Most people even get better gas mileage. That's a byproduct of the tuning I didn't really anticipate, but am pleased by it none the less.

I have been waiting on a dyno for the final release candidate for the NA chips for several months now. I suppose the gentleman just isn't going to do it. So hopefully at 944 Fest I'll finish tuning up the NA chip on the dyno there and release it at that time. I'm really sorry you guys have waited so long, I'm just as anxious to get this product to market as you are to have it.

Regards,
Russell

Yep, the maker of the boards (Moates.net) has an early ECU, code layout, and size constraints. I'm waiting for a proto-type now. Then with the help of a gentleman in Seattle, turnkey converted ECUs will be available on an exchange/core basis. He has a pile of ECUs now that he will convert as soon as the boards are ready. I'm afraid I don't have a firm time estimate, but sooner than it has been

Russell

Russell,

How much do you expect to charge for your chips for the 1988 NA once you finish it? And I would love to see one of those Dynocharts for the chip on an 88 once you get them to help me make a decition of i want to purchase one. Also if you would like I would be willing to test out one of your chips in my car and make a report on how i think it feels in my car if that would help your development at all.

Thanks,
Phil

If I don't get any dyno info by the time I go to 944 Fest, (Aug. 10th), then I'll finish up the NA chip on the dyno there. So at the latest, Aug 10th.

Promotions are always announced here and are stuck to the top of the thread, they are also announced on my forum at http://forums.maxhpkit.com

Also, if you join my support forum, you will receive an email for product announcements. I only send out important emails that concern my clients, I don't spam you. The forum is free of course, as it is intended as a support forum, not really a discussion forum like Rennlist. But discussion is always welcome there as well.

Regards,
Russell
