How many of each colors do I need of these lights? I'm planning on cool white but... Don't I need a dif color LED [red?] for the warning lights (fuel, battery, parking brake, oil) and green for turn signal, blue for highbeams?

I've never taken my instruments apart and have no look finding pics so I don't know which bulbs go where.

You don't need a diferent color for the other lights, but you can get it if you want. Then just get the B8.5D in the colors you wan't, but get 1-2 extra cus I broke some of mine while putting them inn.

The pictures in this thread are awesome. This is the first time I regret tearing out the interior of my car Someday I'll own an early car that will be worth doing this on

Do post pictures if/when you finish butters!

Will do! I'm debating between red and white now, leaning a bit more towards red, just to have something different. I'll let the forums know when I make my order. Also planning on accent lights- red in passenger/ driver foot wells, white on inside of hatch so when you open it, it lights the hatch area.

It's just my opinion, but red would come across as pretty rice. Nice white would look pretty damn good compared to the yellow glow

I was not thinking red for rice.. My dad works for Boeing and their helicopters' instruments use red because human vision is more sensitive to it, and your eyes don't have to adjust as much between red/ night vision...

Bumping this... I haven't purchased the led's yet but plan on it soon, hopefully.

Does anybody have pictures of an early yellow dash with red led's? I'm curious what color tint of red/orange it makes...

Default Oh hey, this thread

I've been working on converting to gauges from a 78 924 and I figured WHILE I'M IN THERE, classic 944 project. The picture isn't great but you can see the difference between the superbright LEDs and the stock bulbs on the left.

Sorry butters, I only got the cool white

It's pretty hard to get all the way back in there behind the center gauge, even with small hands...

PS - holy old thread!! How many years ago did I start this??

Re: newer cars - a buddy just went through updating his S2 with LEDs. Was a bit more work, but he finally got it. I think he ended up finding replacement bulb holders at the local FLAPS that'd hold this style of bulb (which was incorrect for the stock bulb holders)...

Sorry for bumping a super old thread!

If anyone is looking for the right LEDs for the early dash upgrade, here's the cart:
https://www.superbrightleds.com/chec...ccbcb3200e5c5d

The only thing that's not in there is the "WLED 6-LED bulb" for the battery light, because I couldn't find the anything by that name on the SBLED website. There were some that showed up in a search, but eh, I'll just use the stock bulb for that. If someone has the URL for the confirmed correct bulb, that would be super!

EDIT: The bulbs for the left-most pod, with the exception of the temp and fuel gauge bulbs, aren't included because the stock bulbs are already pretty bright.

I would in fact be concerned that swapping in an LED for the battery light might be a problem; I'm not an electrical engineer, but I think there's some need for that bulb to work properly to get the alternator to work, otherwise no charge-ey...
