PARTS LIST

Following are the "SuperBrightLED" part numbers and quantities for this project. See notes for caveats.
  • 74-xHP Wedge Base LED Bulb (10 needed)
  • B8.5D Instrument Cluster LED Bulb (7 needed)
  • WLED 6-LED Bulb
  • 3022-x4 LED Festoon Bulb
  • 4211 LED Festoon Bulb (2 needed)
NOTES:

These parts are for my 1980 931, with factory clock and OP gauge. If you have replaced the factory gauges, modern VDO gauges use Type 168 instead of 74, so subtract two 74-xHP and add two WLED 6-LED bulbs.

All bulbs wired anywhere in the dash are included in this list. . .heater controls, ash tray, glovebox, courtesy lights, instrument, 02 sensor and warning lights. THE GLOVE BOX LIGHT MIGHT BE TOO BIG, but I am going to try it anyway. . .its the shortest one they sell.

This cost $57 including shipping. Not bad for bright bulbs that will never fail.

Sorry to revive an incredibly old thread, but it's informative and should be bumped every once and a while.

Just about to purchase some lights for new gauges I purchased, anyone have pics of how the red LEDs look?
I've got the white numbered 924 gauges and I'm unsure which LEDs I like, I love the white but would just like to compare with the red as red light is easier on your eyes in night driving.

Thanks!

This one was cool.... I wanna get blue LEDS for my stock 944 83 gauges and oil pressure, volt, clock, domelight and taillights. What type do I have to order ? I found the page realy hard to know what to order....

I just jumped into this and placed an order for some blue LED's for my 83 944.... Gonna make custom dash from fiberglass now, so need the lights to see wher they will all go. Altho the instruments in the wheel area will be the same as the original I think.

Has somebody done the conversion for 1986 944? I am interesting in switching to LEDs, but only instructions and parts list for 924 and pre-85s have been posted.
Thanks for any reply.

So I installed my blue LED like in the list above. But I orderd to small festoon bulbs to mutch and WLED I only needed one of them :/ The wedge base was okay to order alittle more of, but the B8-HP I should order more of, 3 of them broke when I was putting them in just alittle to tight. Will make a complet list of what go wher when Im back from work gotta go now....

Whoa. Whats the story behind that dash??

Looks awesome by the way. I don't know why, but all of those blue lights remind me of a set I had been on when I was younger. It was a giant mockup of a spaceship.

Thx man, Im doing a fiberglass tuneup for the early dash. Just got a top cover of fiberglass now but will take out the old and cut it out so it maches up good and make it all in fiberglass with a 2 DIN cdplayer, some switches, cupholders and some luggage space for small stuff. Will be lether when im done.
I love all the blue ! Gonna have black and blue all the way

Engineer : Captain, we have jumped into an unstable orbit near a class S red giant.
Captain : Switch all power to primary aft thrusters, engage emergency backup lighting and plot a trajectory to escape its gravity well.

Guys I don't know how you're not seeing this. I ordered my stuff from super bright LEDs using this list. Includes everything I needed, I opted not to install the door lamps as my sockets are semi-corroded and don't get a full 12v so traditional bulbs are brighter.

* 74-xHP Wedge Base LED Bulb (10 needed) #This is for speedo, rpm, oil, volt, clock, and centerconsole#
* B8.5D Instrument Cluster LED Bulb (7 needed) #This is for left gauge# I would get 3+ more cus they are pretty easy to break when putting them in.
* WLED 6-LED Bulb (1 needed) #This is ONLY for the battery light in the dash#
* 3022-x4 LED Festoon Bulb (1 needed) #This is for the glovebox#
* 4211 LED Festoon Bulb (2 needed) #This is for the luggagelight in the back and domelight#

Just an update for those who want to see what cool white leds look like in the early dash. I just completed the led conversion on my 83 944. I used cool white cluster bulbs on mine from superbrightleds.

p.s. I think the camera makes the led look brighter than they really are. They are much brighter than stock but they don't look overly bright like they do in these pictures.
