Default I'm looking at an engine out of an automatic and I have a 5 speed

Will the engine out of an 85.5 944 n/a automatic fit in my 87 944 stick shift with no problems. Will it bolt right up or is there some changes need so it will fit in my 87 944n/a such wire harness, dme and so on ?

you will need a release bearing for the clutch to work

from the bellhousing forward- no difference. you'll have to swap the dme and possibly the harness.

Everything from crank rear main forward is the same. Different flywheel and no pilot bearing.

Ok my 87 porsche 5 speed has everything in it. I'm removing the engine and putting in an 85.5 engine out of a 85.5 automatic. What all will i need from the 85.5 automatic so it can work in my 87 5 speed ?

you may need to buy a pilot bearing and install it into the back of the crank since the auto most likely will not have one.

Yeah, you can use your DME, flywheel, etc.. Not worth salvaging your pilot bearing, put a new oone in.
