Sometime back in the 1980's ('86 or '87 IIRC), Car and Driver magazine actually picked the 944NA as the best handling car in the world out of a field of import and domestic candidates. It even rated higher in handling than the 944 Turbo, probably because it was more nimble and had better steering response (which I agree with). I guess the 944 still hangs in there pretty well 20 years later.

I dont have power steering on my NA, yet even the slightest flick of the wheel causes a degree of turn...its the best responding car Ive ever driven...beats out the S4 Audi too O:
Now if it would just get to 60MPH..

The 944 are still awesome handling cars, and with a few mods like larger wheels/tires, shocks, springs and sways, they can compete with modern sports cars. My 1999 996 had amazing amounts of grip, and the steering has a great feel, and the brakes are worth the price of the car, but the 944 is a performance bagain.
