Default Fastest 0-60 time in an n/a?

So I was driving home yesterday and came upon a deserted stretch of roadway. It was basically a two mile straight away with open fields on either side, a 55mph speed limit, and one car passed through probably every 20 minutes to half an hour or so. Intrigued, I decided to see how fast my car could do 0-60, I didn't quite believe the 8.7 second or so 0-60 time that I've been told the n/a will do.

Using only first and second gear and only shifting once I hit 4500-5000 RPMs I pulled 0-60 from a complete stop on level ground in about 4-5 seconds over a stretch of about 400-450 feet or roughly the length of a city block. Of course, theres a huge amount of room for error as no stop watch was used, I basically had my friend sitting in the passenger seat counting off one one thousand, two one thousand, etc. as I hit the accelerator. We spent about half an hour going back and forth along this stretch of roadway averaging our count which went from anywhere between 3.5 which seemed downright wrong, to about 7 or 8.

Does anyone have any confirmed times for a quick 0-60 in an n/a? I know this car wasn't built to be a dragster, is downright slow, and that factory testing probably didn't push the car to its limits like I was doing but it would be interested in hearing some other testimonies..

Wow, got the search function to finally work. My times have obviously been HUGELY miscalculated since the only 5 second 0-60 times I've seen are attached to Turbo's. I'll definitely have to bring a stopwatch or some professional meter with me one day, though preferably before I switch out my engine for an LS something or other (I don't like to drive my car hard, I keep thinking I'm going to break something).

Edit: On to further reading and my already acquired knowledge of how slow the 944 n/a is, I was going to delete this thread but it seems that I can't..

Depends on which year of n/a (88's have more power) and your friends extra weight probably didnt help.

I have a passport GT2 timer. I managed a couple low 7s on my stock 944 NA. Mostly mid to high sevens and about 15.5 in the quarter.

My car is an 83' n/a. Basically the only thing that has been done to it in the last 1k miles are new spark plug wires, spark plugs, distributor cap, new head, vacuum lines, oil, flushed coolant, rear seat delete, koni adjustables all round, new tires, and thats about it. Nothing I could think of that would enhance the performance significantly enough to achieve a 5 second 0-60 time.

I had a friend use the dash clock, and the best I've gotten was a little under eight.

Oh btw, I can confirm the distance it took for the car to reach 60mph. I'll need to go back and measure it though but we were starting the car with a road sign as our psuedo starting line and reached 60 by the time we got to the next one which was approximately 400 feet. I was trying to remember how you calculate the time an object takes to cover a certain amount of distance but hit the part of the equation that introduces an exponential component as your cars velocity increases and had a brain fart.

Guess I'll be buying a passport timer..

Yeah, 5 seconds for an unmodded N/A is damn near impossible. My modded turbo has a best time of around 4.9 at a higher altitude and a nice cool day. Of course, I was going downhill and sitting at 18psi (turned it up for that one run) and I think that was a little slow. Then again, what do I know?

Lol, after some calculating, even doing 0-60 over 400ft is practically impossible because at 60mph your car is traveling 88ft per second. Your car would have to be traveling at a constant velocity of 60mph to cover 400ft in 4.54 seconds leaving you 0.46 seconds to reach said velocity. Hmm..

I think my 1988 N/A averages about 7.5 sec. 0-60 and with the right conditions and perfect shifting could do in the low 7s. But i ahve never really officially timed it. My car is stock except for a K&N air Filter.

hmm... I'll have to take my G-Tech out of the vette and try this... as soon as the weather cools down a little. Too hot to drive a car w/o air right now.

x = vo*t + 1/2a*t^2

vo = initial speed (zero from a stop)
t = time

a = acceleration (60mph = 26.8m/s)
