Beautiful. The body looks fantastic. I bet non-porsche people are amazed you only paid $7k for it.

So no more judgements on price, just enjoy!

My mom bought her 968 for around your 944's price (it did have high mileage though). For what you paid, you should have gotten a pristine car, in need of no repairs!

But like they said, what's done is done. Do your own repairs when you can and you'll be better off. It's the only way I can afford to own Porsche. And yes, in the end, you made out with a Porsche for half the price of a new Civic.

Very nice Porsche '44!

Take a large (old) bedsheet and lay it over the (cool) engine compartment...

Get a plastic scraper (like a putty knife, but PLASTIC!!!) and start plowing off the old underhood insulation... that crap gets old and crumbles and gets into just everything!!! NOT good!

Once the scraping is done, dump the bedsheet, and lay it down again and get some Goo Gone and start working away at the goop that is left... it takes some time, but you can do it!

And yes, I think the Leather Guy up in your neck of the woods makes a replacement for the insulation panels... Or...maybe you could try some other "Cut and Fit" heat insulation...

The timing belt and head gasket are the most annoying parts. Other than that, the car is very straight forward and simple.

Price can be really different from one region to another...

Nice NA !

Here in Quebec a 944 na get from 6000 to 9000 depending on year
and shape... and color...

A turbo will be around 15 000(for a nice one), turbo S can be seen at 20 000.

968 at 20 to 25.

Wow, that's a beautiful car!

Hood... so shiney... phone dials... so clean

Hey, when I was younger, there were many cars I wanted, which would have been bad choices because they were crappy cars.... the one you have is beautiful, and should last another 200k + miles with decent maintenance.

Did you get pulled over for window tint on the driver/passenger windows, or for the windshield tint?
Reason I ask is my windshield tint is a touch low, too

On the early cars, you need to pull the sunvisors to change the heater core hoses.

It might not be that difficult to fix, but there are still some really poorly thought out parts of the car.

Oh - Oh, I guess I must be starting that cycle now. Recently broke an outside valve spring. Thanks goodness the inside one kept the valve from falling in. So there's that, going to do the belts and rollers as part of the deal, and then there's the rear A-arm bush that you can now see through I'm going to do that as well.

I'd pull up my repair/maintenance/upgrade records for my 1989 944S2, but I really don't want to go into cardiac arrest!!! (I estimate having spent nearly $30k on the car since 2001... cracked head, new clutch, couple of H2O pumps, belts, electrical issues, oil, track tires & wheels, suspension upgrades, track upgrades...etc)

But everytime I turn a corner on a racetrack, it brings a smile to my face.

Yup. Big smile here too. Costs are starting to add up that way, and I don't want to look at the total either.

Well the car looks nice, but the value is still half the price paid. When you get to detailing your engine, you're going to find pieces of that hood liner everywhere.

The point I was trying to make is that you could easily send a ton of $$ making a 4k car look like that. From the pics anyway.

I'd agree that you should learn to DIY. Lifelong skill, you won't regret it. And as poor as you may feel right now, I bet you can still drop $18 on a membership. Most worthy car-related expenditure you will ever have.

I got pulled over for all the tint..in Michigan your not aloud to have any (on the front two and only 4" on the front).
I hope i have the car for many more miles or untill I get out of college and get a 944 turbo.

Here are some more pictures.
I have new floor mats that say Porsche on them..there just not in th car
