Default gauges on with key out? Little help please...

Hey guys,

Came back from the airport after a week and my battery was dead. Turns out with the key out of the ignition it, it acts as if it's in the aux(?) position..........gauges on and key buzzer buzzing with door open.

There are no running issues and it cranks everytime.

Any ideas?

Thank you

sounds like it could be a bad ignition switch.

+1 Ignition Switch or sticking pins in the lock cylinder. You can try spraying some CRC contact cleaner in the tumbler but it's just a quick fix and won't 'solve' the problem.

Thanks for the replies, gents! I forgot to add that it takes a few seconds after I turn the ignition to off, for it to come "back on". Does that still point towards the switch?

Where's a good place to buy one and is it an easy swap?

Thanks!

Depends on the year of the car for the ignition switch. The early cars are easier. Replacing the lock cylinder for an early or late car is a PIA. One wasy or another plan on pulling the steering wheel and steering column unless you like working upside down with your legs over the back of the seat. Try the contact cleaner first before tearing into it. If it clears up you just have a sticky lock.
