I ended up taking mine off for that 924 Carrera look. Really, how often are you going to use tapes anyways? It takes a whole 5 minutes to take it off if you're really slow.

I went to target and got one of those sticky/cling dash grip pads that they advertise for use with mp3 players and it fits perfectly in the area where the tape holders used to be, so now all my stuff doesn't slide around and make noise. Use the front section to hold all my coins.
I then made some elastic straps on the underside of the armrest to hold things like my parking pass and whatnot up against the top of the armrest instead of falling down onto the cling pad thing on the bottom.

Still looking for that metal hinge
Well, I still can't find that aftermarket metal hinge, so I ordered the factory plastic piece ($19.91 from Sunset).
I'd still like to find the metal one, so if anyone has any leads, please let me know.

It is time to replace my broken one also....how do I get a hold of "Sunset $19.91"? That is the cheapest I have seen them, no need to spend any more than you have to.

They advertise "dealer cost (plus 15%, plus shipping)". Prices are generally a little lower than other Porsche dealerships. They're slow to respond to email, so give them a call.

that I've seen one. Granted, it was about three or so years ago. It was advertised as a direct replacement for the original plastic part. The ad (and I can't remember whether it was on the www or in print in a Porsche magazine or catalog) showed a dark, fuzzy b/w photo. I'm not convinced that it's a drastic improvement over the original plastic part, but I really want to investigate.
