Default Swapping tranny parts

Will a Turbo LSD unit swap into an S2? Also, what about the turbo cooler, will it bolt onto an S2 or S?

The LSD units are interchangeable. The oil cooler can be installed, but you need to swap the diff side plate (which requires reshimming the ring gear, but that gets done when you swap diffs anyway), the pump gear drive (mounts on the diff), and the trans end cover.

That's what I thought, but it's always good to get a second opinion before dropping coin

also the rear cover has a return hole in it for the loop it has to be replaced as well. I have one or 2 of the rear covers for trans with coolers. The lsd unit requires a different cooler drive gear than the open diff as well.

The reason that I ask is that I'm considering buying an S2 tranny without LSD and swapping my turbo LSD and cooler into that tranny. That way, I get LSD and cooling with shorter gearing.

Alright, this is definately going to happen. Two weeks ago at Barber the oil cooler sprung a leak put an end to my weekend (luckily it was mid afternoon on Sunday). Third gear has also been giving me trouble in that transmission and when I drained the diff oil last week I found some metal

The good news is that my the 944S2 tranny that I bought came in last week Now I need to swap out the LSD, does anyone know of a DIY writeup? I have the PET and have printed it out the schematics, but a DIY would help matters.

Since the 951 diff cooler is leaking like a sieve, I won't bother to transfer it to the 944S2 tranny.

You absolutely need the transmission section from the factory service manuals, no other source of information will suffice.

Again, when swapping a diff from one trans to another, you really dont want to assume that the R/P depth, preload, and backlash will be within spec - so it needs to be measured and the pinion and diff. bearings will likely need to be reshimmed.

I have the factory manuals for the 968, but not the 951 or S2

If anyone has the PDF for the 951 or S2, please send me the trans/diff section to ec200rider at yahoo.com

someone on here should have them available. Just take your time and measure twice these trannies aren't that scary once you get in there.
