Your tire shop screwed up. You have late offset wheels (instead of early offset) on the front of your car.

For what it's worth though, I have MilleMiglia Cup1's (same size & offset as what you need, just the earlier design of wheel) and with 255's the rear driver's side rubbed as well. The common "baseball bat" trick fixed that problem.

HAHA I have lots of pics of my car, but 99% of them have the wheels turned. I found a couple though. Looks like they may be a little sunk in. Forgot to say NICE CAR man. Wow super clean. (NOTE: the driver side front fender has a broken bracket so that corner does flare out a little) the 3rd picture can give you an idea of how much it pops out.

Yes, the suspension is 100% original. I haven't lowered it or changed anything. My rear shocks are old, but seem fine. Did your wheel offset look about like mine? ie narrow in front, very wide in back?

Rich, that would explain a lot. The front looks really odd. Do you think the rears they sent are really for the late offset also? If they replace them, maybe I should go for a 245 or 235 on the rear instead of the 255s?

with the 17's you need 45 side wall in front and 45 sidewall in the rear

Van, if the rears were late offset, they would sit in further inside the well - I think the rears are the proper offset for an 86 - they sit like mine sit. The fronts are CLEARLY the wrong offset, no doubt whatsoever.

You could go with a 245, but it might still rub. I would instead take a baseball bat and roll the boxed fender lip flat against the body - that will solve your problems and let you run whatever tire size you want. (that's how mine was done)

Hmm, something is not right.
What do the wheels say for actual offset? From the back or near the Valve-Stem. A 255/40 17" Should not be out that far.
There has got to be a large Spacer on the Rears or something else to do that.

Here is a pic of a 18x11" Wheel with a 285/30 (Pirelli Ascemetrico) Tire on my Early Offset 944. Your smaller wheels are out as much as mine!
I get Rubbing only on a few occasions if I am not paying attention. Pirelli Rosso's more round shape fit better then others.

I used to have Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's. Also worked fine. No rubbing. I think the sidewall pertruded a little more than the Kunho's though.

I can't give much help on the wheels other then what all others suggest; roll that fender and get the front wheels figured out with the shop or tire rack. I know my D90's fit like a dream...lol

Yeah, Rosso's have Extensions on the tire to help protect from curbing your wheels. Kinda odd looking at first.
I don't like Kumho's though, while they have nice prices, their grip is kinda meh. Especially in the rain.

Back to the OT. Did the car get an alignment after the new wheels? Maybe see if they can move them in a bit?

Rich, thanks very much. That makes sense on the fronts. According to the Tire Rack website, an 85 944 front for this wheel should have and offset of +23mm. It says an 87 and on should have +52mm. Does that sound correct? It almost sounds like their website has it backwards. Does a larger + offset push the wheel outwards?

Here's a photo of the rear wheel hub. Note the giant offset built into this wheel. The lug nuts are so deep, you can just barely touch them with your finger! I have not installed any spacers.

Italy. I've never seen a wheel like this either. I don't really know if this design is common now or not.

'86 and later cars had anti-lock brakes which pushed the hubs out considerably; therfore changing the offset. The rears you have is how industry (non-porsche) has compensated for people wanting newer style wheels on the older cars.

I beleive, as someone said earlier, the fronts are for an actual 86 and later car. The rears are correct (for your car).

Did you roll just the first 12" on the front of the rear fender, or did you go around the top also? I looks like the top could rub too with this wheel sitting so far out.
