Default Busted CV!!! strong vibration under heavy throttle....

**Updated Blown CV **
Just like the title says,
I get a heavy vibration when I hit boost....
Feels like it is coming from the rear...
Even at 70 MPH if I stomp on the accelerator and get up into boost I feel it....

I am going to jack the car up tonight and check the axles but I suspect it may
be far more sinister than that!
Could this be LSD chatter? I haven't tried hard acceleration in a corner yet but it occurs when going straight...
Might not be related but I get a grinding sound from the NEW brakes when I brake hard....

Any suggestions on what might be the problem?
Just looking for known problems issues and common problems....

87 951 LSD ABS 130K miles
New clutch, Timing, balance shaft and a/c belts.
New water pump, New starter and battery.
New sparkplug wires, distributor cap and rotor.
Fuel injection system cleanup, coolant flush and new fluid, and new expansion tank (still have rough idle).. Oil and transaxle fluid change. New rotors and brake pads. (although I get a grinding sound from the rear... the rotors look new though..)
New engine seals.
Thanks JC

Hey John,

Before you worry too much about the sinister, take the car to a good alignment shop and have them check the rear alignment. If it's off, it can make the car do funky things. Does the rear have excessive 'bounce' to it at all? When you are under hard boost the wheels are pulling in, and if the tow is already too far in it will cause this behavior. However, you will also see it on the rear tires if that is the case. Look for scalloping of the outter edge of the rear tires, and ruber your hand across the tire, inside to out, and then outside to end, and see if you feel a sharp edge on the outside->in the tow is out, if you feel a sharp edge the other way the tow is in. If you have neither and the alignment seems okay, it could also be a torn/broken belt in one of the rear tires, if it's bad enough to cause this, you'll probably be able to feel it with your hand.

Now to the sinister, could be an axle about to grenade on you, which is why I gave you extra axles But it could also be as simple as the transmission mount is broken or breaking and kind of torquing side to side when under hard acceleration. But check these things before you consider pulling the tranny or anything else drastic. I'm sure others will chime in with other things to check as well. A lot of times people get a new clutch and inherit a vibration from it that feels like it's in the rear and it's actually the ailing engine mounts.

Good luck! You really deserve some!

Regards,
Russell

Cool... Thanks for the advice...
The car was worked on by a "good" shop I think..
They put new tires and gave it a "sport" 4 wheel alignment.

So I will check the mounts... This car had a receipt for $9,900 worth of work done to it....
Every seal replaced, wires, etc... I guess they just missed a few things...
I will drive it gingerly until I get a good look underneath....

Thanks JC

I had REALLY bad vibrations and noise when I would step on it in my NA. It turned out the exhaust hanger bolts were loose. You might want to check those just in case...

GRRRRRRR!!!!!!
Yup it was bound to happen...
Curry Auto service told me I needed motor mounts and that was the "nasty" vibration I got on acceleration....
But no!!!! This morning I let off the gas and CLICK CLICK CLICK...
It is louder when I accelerate and only gets quieter when I put in the clutch slowing down... at 5mph it is a loud Click... click.. click... louder under power and much quieter when I lift and push in the clutch... but it is still there... GRRRRRR......
Sounds like the right rear.....

I guess once I get the new axles in I will do some pictures of the removal and install "driveway" style.

So what do you think of the Paragon "new" axles?

Do you-all know of any stronger axles?
Thanks JC
