Default Supercharging..?

A local 944 race shop offers a supercharging kit for each variant of 944. It is almost entirely a "bolt-on" affair, requiring only modification to the intake manifold (not exactly shown in pic, but close). I realize that SCs are better for low-end power but still can carry some benefits into the higher RPMs. As always I am in the search for power, and have succumbed to the power of boooooooooost. Also, I love the sound that a SC makes when winding up.

Yes or no, and a good reason why.

that whole intake is modified. I would not really consider that "bolt on" at all.

Well, if you supply the core, and you simply bolt on the new intake manifold, then it is technically bolt on.

V2, I am VERY interested in this... do you have a link or anything you can send me?

Thanks!!!

http://www.andersonmotorworksinc.com...eroverview.htm

Site owner's name is John Anderson. He has the supercharger labeled for S2's but if you read the description its supposed to be for the 8valvers too.

Search for Anderson Motor Works. You'll see why you don't want to go that route.

I did, but didn't find anything disastrous. What's the story?

Supercharging the 8-valve is difficult due to the limitations of the Bosch L-Jetronic. Since Porsche used a fuel system that normally runs lean on the high end of the power band, this can be HAZARDOUS to 'bolt-on' superchargers that don't have the A/F ratios balanced.

I have seen 2 supercharged 944s have piston ring damage and burned valves due to this...

so the 16 valve would technically be easier than the 8 V?

Hahahaha a John Anderson supercharger kit.... If he cant leave the rear main seal out of a race engine, what will it be with this? Maybe an 16:1 AFR on the chips supplied? Oh wait hes using a rising rate FPR by the looks of it.... Just the thing for a boosted engine

Regardless of Anderson's history...

If the L-Jetronic was replaced by a more capable system, would a supercharger get me good gains? I'd probably run 6-8PSI so that pistons don't get damaged.

Certainly sounds interesting... I hope something good comes out of it.
