OK. so i've had way to many problems with my a/c. it's a 86 951 with the griffith kuehl sp? kit. the damn thing is eating belts left and right. i put a new one on, check the oil in the a/c bit, and it's fine, so i tighten it up. car works fine, then after it's warm i turn on the ac and the belt becomes instantly loose, but it's still on the pulley. what is the deal, i tighten it up, then it mysteriously loosens.

Does the compressor pulley turn freely? I don't mean the pulley itself, but the part actually attached to the input shaft in the center. If your compressor is messed up it could be making a lot of resistance, causing the belt to stretch out on one side and look all loose on the other?...
Bit of a stretch, but it's an idea. It should turn quite easily and quietly by hand.

Check the other 2 bolts holding the compressor. One goes to the mounting bracket the other goes to the alternator. Probably one backed out.
