I've had my turbo sitting 4 wheels off the ground on jack stands for close to 6 months now without any issues. Even had a couple of minor earthquakes and its still sitting there. I've been getting in and out of the cabin a lot as well.

well from that pic I get the general idea of where the rear jackstands go but I still can't tell the exact spot.

anyone have a real life pciture of teh rear jackstands placed under the car so I can see where they are placed.

right now I'm thinking of just putting the rear on ramps and only the front on jack stands so I can replace the oil pan gasket but I'm also not sure if having the rear tires on ramps is ok.

As long as the rear tires are not going to roll, I don't see any problem. Make sure the parking brake is tight and the car is left in gear and it should be fine. If you can fit blocks onto the ramp, I'd suggest those as well (probably overkill).

ok thanks. I doubt I can fit my wheel chocks on the ramps but I highly doubt the car will start rolling with the car in gear and parking brake on I'll try and may sure the front isn't much higher than the rear on the ramps.

I"m thinking the safest way would be to raise the up from one side and then put the one jack stand and one ramp on that side then jack up the other side and stick the ramp / stand on the other side.

the hardest part is that whenever I jack up the car using my floor jack I have to basicly kick pretty hard to get the ramps under the tire and teh car is raised up pretty high. I'm always scared the car is going to flip over on it's side when jacking it up so high from one side.

I think maybe I'll first put both rear wheels on ramps then jack each side up again and put the jack stands on the front frame rails.

that's the thing I don't know what it looks like I need real life photos. I've never placed a car on jackstands so I dont' want to screw it up. I"ve only used ramps so far.

I think ramps on the rear tires should work fine. I'll post pics when I have the car up so you can judge if it looks safe...

if someone can post a real life picture of under the car with the clear pic fo where the rear stands are placed then I'd put it on 4 stands.

I also just checked my floor jack and it only has a max lift of 15 inches so that's why I have to kick the ramps to get them under the tires.

I'd be careful using cinder blocks for any part of this. Individually, they are not good at load bearing.

I never said I would use cinder blocks lol. Definately wouldn't put the cars weight on anything other than ramps or jackstands.

I was going to place cinder blocks / plywood / the tires (to raise the wheels up higher) so it almost touches the body underneath the car. If the car falls for some reason it would hold it up.

also wondering anyone know how much it should cost to get a shop to replace the oil pan gaskt / motor mounts?

the porsche shop I go to charges 100/ h and they are very good so they'd get it done much faster than me. The thing is I think they'd charge me way more for the parts, like the motor mounts than I can get it for. when I did my timing belt / water pump I was going to get the parts from them but a new water pump was 600 bucks I think and the rollers etc were also much more expensive than from paragon including the shipping.

I"m guessing it would cost around 1500 to get the oil pan / motor mounts done.

I have the money to pay for a shop to do it right now but I'm a student so saving a bit of money would also be nice but I'm not sure it would be worth all the cursing and yelling.

I've heard that this is one of the jobs that most people don't want to do.

One of the jobs that most people won't want to do is the clutch. Anyway, i was thinking of doing this same thing myself, i was kind of leery about it though and ended up just jacking up the front of the car using a $20 jack and jackstand set i picket up from Kragen, of course i was leery of this and placed a 6 ton jack under the car wherever i was working on it. The car sat there for about 2-3 months while Arash and i sawed on the engine and such, i even stood on the bumper quite a few times to plug things into the ceiling outlet in my garage and the car was just fine. Worst part was getting at the exhaust manifold nuts because your between the front passenger side wheel and the jackstand and your bumping into it the whole time as you tightening the nuts. As for putting your car on ramps, just make sure its in gear and you have your parking brake fully engaged, ramps have little wells that your wheels settle in to prevent them from rolling. You might also consider taking your front wheels off, it will give you more room to move around under your car.

As far as finding the exact place to jack your car up, find the approximate spot as listed on the picture and start lifting the car, if nothing bends, chances are more than likely you've got the right place.

Anyway, if you really feel unsafe about the whole thing then have a shop do it.

ok thanks.

well I know where to jack the car up from, I jack from under teh door (where the arrow is) and it works fine.

The fraim rais area also pretty obvious in the front of the car and this is where I'd place my jack stands but I would also have to raise the rear end or it would be on a angle and not really safe.

From that pic I don't get where the rear jack stands are suppose to be so I want to place the rear end on ramps which I wasn't sure is safe, having the car up on a combination of ramps in back and jack stand in teh front.

I considered the torsion bar ends (white), but I like where I have the blue lines.

I'll always leave the floor jack about a millimeter below the side jack point as well as the main weight supported by jack stands in the pictured spots. If I'm on an especially worried day, I'll throw a wheel under the car near where I'm working. It's an 8" wheel so I could wriggle out if the worst thing happened.
