Default Car started before, now it won't start at all...

Ok, so I've managed to get the car running, but now for whatever reason, it doesn't run at all.

Basically, it took forever to get the car started. I had to spray starting fluid in the car to get it to start. It took me something like 10 minutes of this (last time it was running was about 6 months ago). I fixed the ignition, so now it cranks with the key (and not some ghetto wire attached to the starter that I short to the battery).

I managed to get the car running, and it chugged to life. The DME was NOT sending a signal to the fuel pump and for whatever reason the fuel pump simply was not going on. I still haven't figured out what the reason is, but I hooked the fuel pump directly to the battery with a temporary wire that I gator clip to it (I'm completely re-doing the car, so this isn't anything permenant, just so I can diagnose and get the motor running well).

The motor barely started after several times of chugging and it finally idled. It idled quite well at 1,300 rpms, and then the temperature started to rise after idling for 15 minutes. I shut it off before it got into the red (the fans never came on, whole seperate issue).

I re-did everything in the cowl area, cleaned up the fan replaced the hood to cowl seal, cleaned all the drain spouts, etc. I tried to start the car again and cannot get it to start.

Now, when I crank, I don't see the tach move at all. I managed to get the car to "start" for a split second by spraying starting fluid in the air passage, but it only dieseled (if anything), and very quickly died.

What on earth could be wrong with this motor. Do you guys think it's the reference sensors? Did my DME just die? I'd like to get some of these issues like the fuel pump fixed as well.

Can anyone tell me what kind of fuel pressure I should expect? I'd like to be able to rule out a failing fuel pump first thing....

Thanks!!!

I hate to say it, but it sounds like there's lots of stuff wrong with it. You may have to totally rebuild the engine.

Well, the engine is fine, it's everything else that's attached to it. Why would I want to rebuild the motor?

Did you test the DME relay?

It's brand new. I also checked all the fuses.

I went ahead and ordered new Reference and Speed sensors last night too just for the hell of it. I figure I'll need them anyway, and if it can make the car run better / like new, then it's worth it.

It could be the coil.

If you get some activity with starter spray then it sounds fuel related to me. If your sure all the fuses are good (fuel pump fuse?) then how about the pressure regulator? I'm just guessing here. The only non-start problem I've ever had was a burned out fuel pump fuse caused by an O2 short. Oh, and forgetting to reconnect the AFM.

Thanks guys...

Well, I checked all the fuses under the dash. But I have the fuel pump wired up directly to the battery (since it wouldn't engage before). I'm only doing that for testing purposes, but I believe that circuit might be fixed now anyway now that the starter works too after having installed the new ignition lock / switch.

The coil seems to work as it DOES run when I spray starting fluid. I'm not sure about the pressure regulator (it looks like there are two of them?). But it was running earlier, but I just can't get it started now.

The only thing that changed between then and now was I re-did a bunch of stuff in the cowl area. I think I may have disrupted the reference sensor plugs. I just ordered new ones... just in case, along with a complete set of other sensors (O2, temp, etc...).

Are there any other fuses OTHER than the ones located under the drivers side of the dash (in my 84)?

THanks!!!
