So has anyone inherited the results of lousy maintenance? Stupid mods? Clumsy mistakes?

In my case ('87 944 NA automatic) the main issues are some clumsy deletes (wires hanging out, wrapped in electrical tape) and lots of missing screws (especially with dash pieces).

How about you guys?

One of them couldnt drive a standard car worth crap. The crank had several times the maximum axial play on the crankshaft and was a write off due to the damage to the trust bearing surface.

Remember people, you dont hold clutches down at lights for a reason....

Car was ran to 4,000-5,000 RPM within 2 minutes of starting

The abuse for 25,000 miles resulted in damaged piston rings in EVERY SINGLE CYLINDER.

Repainted over the beautiful garnet red paint with an Earl Scheib black and oversprayed on every glass around the car.

They let Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles have a creative painting moment with my car. There was overspray on the sun visors.

Worst thing so far that I've seen is a reference sensor wire bundle taped/spliced onto the harness, rather than having the factory plug on the harness.

That and it's a 24 yo, 140k mile 944 on the original clutch. I guess it means they were gentle, but it leaves me with the bill at some point.

Haha, one of the PO's of my car put 3 different types of brake fluid into the mastercylinder, and some cotton for good measure. What a mess that was to fix. He also figured motor oil ought to do just fine in the gearbox.

My favorite though would have to be his trick wiring dual 12inch subs into a power lead somewhere in the stock bundle. Well he caught the main bundle on fire and melted it. Woopsies. Not sure what he was thinking. That was about a year and a half to fix, and Ive still got some gremlins running around.

Finally his use of drywall screws and bondo as a fix to structural issues was pretty funny to discover. (Drywall screws kept falling in my garage from someplace....alot of them!)

My PO left the top down all the time. as a result the vents had layers of crap and every crack in the interior was filthy. This guy took mechanical care of the care but didn/t care to much about the appearance. Also, took the tool kit...why?

I keep finding that there are missing interior trim screws. Usually one here or there, its nothing major just someone lazy when the were doing things. Grr..

Another thing I have found is a several cut wires in the cargo area. I assume there was a subwoofer, cd changer back there.

More on this? Maybe we should raffle this off at the 944fest.
