I spoke with the seller over the weekend -- he said he was bombarded with 60 inquiries as of Saturday. Too bad I just don't have the space for another car....

We get a run of the mill, no frills, barerly decent shape NA for 4900 on craigslist here... with the cost of living being more on West coast, I don't get it at all.

I was looking on craigs an hour or so ago and saw that.
I wish I had the money for the 3 piece bbs wheels. I'd sooo love to get a second set of all 8inchers.

75 ohm: It's because car space is a premium in Cali. You pay $300/ month for a space in SF so if it isn't running, it's more expensive to sit on it than to just get it gone. With housing prices what they are, most garages have been converted into living space for family use or to rent out. One can't leave an out-of-registration car on the street or it will get impounded, so where will it go? Used cars are hard to sell here - much of the reason why we part them out here instead, especially if they are marginal. Take what you need and send it to scrap quickly.
However, some of us "North-bay" regulars on the list (who will remain nameless) have farmland or have family with farmland so for them, the sky is the limit!

Exactly -- this particular car has an oil leak, so the seller put it as a PNO (planned non-op). Which means that you can't store it on the street and it takes up valuable space in your driveway.
That and the fact that his wife wants the car out....

Another reason cheap 944s are easy to find in CA: people here thrashed the cars. Either because they live big and spend big on other stuff, or because they thought of them as disposable porsches, or w/e... Then a cheapskate buys it and finishes destroying it, and voila you have a $600 944 and a $3000 951 on craigslist. Gotta love it.
