Tire changing equipment and Cup wheels
I have a set of 17" Cup wheels from Wheel Enhancement. 23mm ofset for my 83 944. Do I have to use "touchless" tire changing equiment or will any tire equipment work without worrying about wheel damage? Have purchased from Discount Tire because they use "touchless? tire changing equipment (meaning the metal bar doesnt actually touch your rim - no pressure or contact) I have been worried that these rims might break or crack from any other tye of tire changing equipment wherre the metal bar presses against the rim. Anyone have any experience with this?

yeah, as long as you use care you should be fine. tire changing is all i do, and as long as the guy doing them takes time and doesn't rush you'll be fine. my advice would be to stand outside the shop and watch him. it sucks when people do it to me, but i am a lot more careful.

A lot of the higher end machines have a little roller or use a plastic arm where it touches the rim. They always tear up the rims on my VW since it has very stiff sidewalls and 40 series tires. The lower profil they are, the harder they are to do right. A good tire installer can do them right though

If you don't want to take a chance, I would highly recommend EuroWerks in Mathews, NC. They have the sophisticated tire changing equipment that does not touch the wheels. It won't cost you much more than a regular tire shop. I even take my phone dials there.
