Default LED Cluster Mod

Some of you may know I've tried othe methods found here.

http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/Co...hode_tubes.htm

The UV tube worked great for 2 days before it blew out. So heres my next attempt. I found a product that works pretty good and costs under $25. This is an LED Flexi-Lite distributed by Pilot Automotive. Its the best low profile LED strip out there. Its 10" long and has double sick tape on the back. I would have preferred white but the blue is all that was available. Lemme tell you this thing is brite and is very noticeable from the exterior. I will eventually get the white which is harder to find. The part number is CZ-180B the white is CZ-180W. You may find at Pep Boys or Autozone. The white you wont find however I have a lead on where to find. Heres a sample

Holy bright batman.
I wish I could remember the blues brothers quote... but the sunglasses part seems really relevant right now

Seriously though, how is it for reflections off the gauge faces at night? Looks like it might be a bit of overkill.

Reflection is not really noticable since I pointed the leds at an angle and then put black electrical tape over the area to cover it. Its shows a little but not to the point where its bother some. They're hooked up to my dimmer and they dim. I'll put a lil cap over the lights so no reflection is noticed when I get my white ones.

Does the dimmer work with LED? or is it either on or off?

I tried a few things but eventually found 3W normal bulbs to be the best.

I tried some T10 LED bulbs but found they didnt reflect properly. Also I find LED light to be very harsh. I would liken it to sitting under ugly fluoro lights Vs a nice halogen.

If bright is what you're after go 3W T10 and maybe even polish and re chrome paint the reflectors.

I will have to take some night photos of my dash but it's not harsh...dimmer kinda works...has two settings ...brite...and not so brite. I usually keep it at the lower of the two settings

It does look good but I hope you can tone it down at night to a low roar. I'm afraid that light reflecting off the gauge surrounds and hood would bother me though. The 194 bulbs work just fine for me and theres never an issue with dimming them when I need to. That does look pretty cool though

Maybe if you can get back into the wiring you could put a small resistor on the wiring before the lights to dim them a bit.

I wonder if you can candy coat that bulb like people do with their tail lights but with a darker color blue or something.

The lights do in fact dim. I tapped into the previous wire my audio guy hooked up to before. Its probably the power wire from the dimmer. Ill do a DIY write once I get the white and yes its availabe in Blue, Red and Green. The white has to be special ordered.
