Just saw these. Are these 928 wheels the same as 944 sewer lids? Not bad for $100/set w/ tires

I thought they were called "sewer covers". But for 100 bucks I would pick them up for some track/snow tires in a heartbeat!

Um, I was under the impression that Club Sports have 7 holes that are more rounded. There have been some for sale lately and they look nothing like the wheels listed in the Craigs List ad.

They are forged and made by Fuch. In 928 form they are:
16x7 - 65 ET, 8.4 kg
16x8 - 52.3 ET, 9.1 kg

Forget my Club Sport comment, time for more meds

Those are definitely "sewer lids" and they are not forged. Unless you need cheap winter rims, I'd pass on them, even at $100. Those are the cookie cutters of the 928 line.

Regards,
Which were the forged ones made by Fuch for the 928? I thought the crescent shaped mark over the openings denoted the forged sewer lids from the cast ones that had no mark? This was true for the the 944 in late offset I thought. I have seen both types on 944's. The info came from a wheel weight FAQ and they were listed as "Gulleydeckel" wheels, sewer lids sounds better than that.

Well, the set that I pulled off my wifes 928 definitely weren't forged. Maybe they changed in later years, but the '82 model year didn't look particularly impressive, or else a PO had swapped them out for something off a 944.

I've seen people grind open the slots on these 928 style wheels to make CS replicas, but I doubt they are forged like the CS wheels were.

Incidentally, $100 is a bargain nowadays considering how much the VW crowd wants them. Though they prefer D90s.

I thought the 928 wheels are all forged in that style. Check with the 928 forums.
