Default REALLY hot console

Whenever it get moderately warm outside my console gets really hot. If I touch the climate control ***** it darn near burns my fingers.

But what worries me is that my head unit (Blaupunkt MP74 Los Angeles) gets scorching hot right along with everything else. I'm afraid the heat is going to kill it eventually.

Anything I can do about this? (My car doesn't have AC lol)
And it doesn't seem like the heater is stuck on, as no hot air blows through the vents.

Thanks

I have the same problem, though it's not nearly as bad as yours. I feel a draft and get a whiff of engine ... it feels like engine fumes (not exhaust gases) are coming through the firewall.

I do know the plastic plate that goes over the battery and fuse panel is all cracked and broken to hell, I'm wondering if that's the cause. Off to a junkyard today to see if I can get a new one.

What about the insulation under the shifter? Intact?

Perhaps the firewall shield?

Where's the firewall shield? Can you describe it?

Mine is cracked and broken too....

Could that really do it though....? hmmm....

I know we both have an auto trans, Could the shifter insulation cause such a large problem?

We have to find a good pic of an engine bay sans engine. Either that or peek into your bay across from your exhaust headers -- see the metal shield?

I think I saw that when the engine was out....
Is it just a thin piece of sheet metal molded to the fender wall? kinda?

oh and my headers are wrapped if that makes a difference.

check and see if your firewall seal is still there... mine is missing and I get a good whiff of engine fumes through my vents.

A clogged cat will really heat up you car's interior.

One time I had a receipt that I put in the ashtray and after a spirited drive the blue ink on the paper had turned black from heat.

Man just think what your car would be doing if it visited my town for a weekend in July...

Yeah, I can't leave my iPod in the little pocket beneath the deck without it becoming scary hot. I'm talking nuclear hot.
