Default Duct Tape Residue...

The PO had put duct tape all around the sunroof because it leaked. After I bought it and a few spirited drives (not to mention the car washes) it started to come off.

The leaking is not my problem, I handled that... My problem is the residue left behind after I took it all off. I tried all kinds of products that I knew wouldn't hurt the paint but I can't get it off. I used a plastic scraper all the way down to just plain hot soapy water.

Any sugestions? I don't want to hurt the paint. I can get some of it by scraping with my nail but that would take me.... oh..... about a year!

Thanks!

Goo gone? Works wonders for everything I've tried it on so far. You need to let it sit for a bit though.

WD-40 might work. You could also try adhesive remover.

My favorite! Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) but use sparingly and don't go too crazy with it.

I would just use a hair dryer and some rags.

WD-40 was really useful for getting road tar off of some of my family's cars in the past, when nothing else even with a lot of elbow grease would work. And I'm pretty sure that you can wd-40 paint all day and it won't damage it.

Water Displacement, 40th batch, to the rescue.

I thought the 40 was from it having 40 uses? But I know the Water Displacement is right.

Nope, it was the 40th formula tested. There are more than 40 uses anyway...

go to a automotive paint store and buy some degreaser, won't hurt the paint at all and will take it off nicely

Wow, I didn't think I'd get so many responses on sucha dull topic.

THANK YOU.

I was going to try goo gone but had less than succesful experiences with it when it comes to duct tape. I'll give that WD-40 thing a try, sounds like a keeper.

Automotive dereaser helped some but not enough.

Thanks again!
