Search the 996, 997, 928, and GT2/GT3 sections for some really great threads on V1 mounting, as well as good technical info.

Well say what you will but my 8500 just saved my hide once again!

As for laser protection, I don't what you have chances are you are toast and the only saving grace is some idiot hotrodding down the road just ahead of you.

Oh and for anyone traveling through NC notice those white lines painted across the road just past underpasses. Those are timing lines for the NC Highway Patrol to use with VASCAR which basically is a timing device in the patrol car. Deadly, very accurate and there's no way to see it's usage before you hit those lines.

I had a V1. I guess it was nice, but right now I have an old Bel that is hardwired into the car. It came with the car. The Bel pretty much tells me if I've been hit, or if my nearby bait has been hit and its time to slow down. Thats good enough for me and I can't see myself spending $400 again for arrows. If money wasn't an object, I think the Passport 9500 is cool. I really like the feature that lets you save known speed traps via GPS. Thats about the only protection there is against laser or the old "I can tell you were speeding because you looked fast" that is legal and even then its 50/50. $400 will get you a nice amount of time on the track.

The Escort 9500i is a total flop...the GPS option doesnt work like expected because if you drive by a store and you push the GPS lock it will lock out "That Radar Band across the board" meaning if a cop was parked there running radar the Escort 9500i will ignore it and you would have no warning if you were speeding thinking it was safe. I have completed tested this 9500i and I would not waste my $$ on it.

I think radar detectors are kinda pointless now, at least in Michigan/Ohio as the technology for the cop guns have gotten so advance. All the cops around here use laser which is useless if you have a RD as theres no advance warning. The cop can sit there and point the gun and turn it on and off as he sees fit. A few years ago when the cops in Michigan were still using the old k/ka band equipment the V1 would detect far in advance, but those days are long gone. I have a V1 ill sell you if your interested. Mines about 2 years old and I have the original box and sales receipt from Valentine when I bought it new.

Keep your V1 since its still the best radar detector and laser detector on the market. For the laser part of it get a top notch laser jammer for you laser defenses. The V1 is so laser sensitive it will detect laser scatter like no other radar/laser detector on the market. I have laser pro park parking sensor (laser jammer) and its the best on the market and it also works as a parking sensor and the owners manual only talks about the parking sensor and nothing about the laser jammer.

Not entirely true. You CAN get "scatter" from laser aimed at a nearby/preceding car. It's not as much of an exact science as one might think too - try aiming a simple laser pointer at something a few hundred feet away sometime - the dot dances and jitters all over the place. Unless the LEO has the laser gun mounted on a tripod or braced VERY well when aiming, the dot is going to jitter all over the place and afford someone with a good detector to get a little warning. Not much warning, but maybe just enough. . .

Even if it's a 10% chance of success, it's better than writing a check to the tax collectors masquerading as cops out there.

You would be correct, but LEO's don't write tickets using laser pointers, laser pointers are around 600 Nm and dont have the strength at long distance's like past like 100 feet and then it spreads out since the optic's are quite different then the optics of a police lidar gun and its light sprectrum is at 904/905 Nm which is very specific for lidar guns and the optics are designed for up shooting distance's from 2,000 ft. to 8,000 ft. depending on the police lidar gun. but the V1 is the best in laser detection and laser scatter. I didnt say no other RD didnt pick up laser scatter but in my testing the V1 did the best and it was a major difference. Also the V1 has the largest antenna's for radar and laser (front and rear) and that makes the best. Just remember it only takes a LEO only .3 sec's to pick up a speed reading a lidar gun, I know this because I have several police lidar guns since I am in the laser jammer testing business.

You can input the serial number on the V1 website and they will tell you if it is the latest version of their detector. If not, they will give you a quote to upgrade it. They have been using the same basic design for years and they are the only maker I know that will upgrade for a fraction of the cost of replacement.
