Default Just died

Hey guys,

I'm sensing a pattern with my car here...I'm gonna fix and fix and fix until all the components are new, and then it'll run fine. Oh well.

Latest episode: Driving down the road a 60 mph, and the engine just quit. No bucking, no sputtering. One second driving next second coasting. Starter turns over fine (it's new as of 1500 miles ago). Any suggestions on this one? My garage can't get me in until Tuesday unless I beg (and I don't really wanna use that card yet), and I should be able to figure this out myself with your guys' help. I'm thinking fuel pump (fuse is good), or something with the spark. Obvious, yes, but hopefully true. My AFM is also a little "shady", but a faulty AFM should still allow the car to start even for a second I would think.

I know how to check a car's fuel pressure at the rail, but I'm used to newer cars that just have the valve under a plastic cover. When I started to unscrew the nut at the end of the fuel rail, fuel started coming out under pressure. If my fuel pump crapped out, it would have depressurized the system when it quit right? So there shouldn't be any pressure left there at all if I figure it right. And since I can't start the car, what's the procedure to depressurize the system? Standard way is to pull the fuel pump fuse while the car is running correct?

Anyway, I always appreciate all of your advice! This site makes working on these things so much easier!

Thanks in advance,

Seth

How old is the TB? You might have lost some teeth that caused the cam to stop going and all that jazz.

My car was on the fritz for a while, turned out that the connectors for the AFM were all dirty.

Car won't start back up, so I'm ruling out the AFM malfunction. Even with the AFM unplugged the car should fire up and run like S***. What's the procedure for check plugs wires and cap?

Pull a plug, ground the threads and check to see if it sparks. oh and don't hold on to it, there is a lot of electricity running through it.

might not want to have the plug near the opening either because the car will spray the gas vaper and what not out of the spark plug hole. And i've never heard of it happening but i don't want to be responsible for you blowing up your face.

First thing I would check is if your reference sensor came loose at the connection behind the intake manifold. Those things are notorious for killing the car while in motion and not starting back up. I assume you've checked your DME relay? It's not your timing belt if it turns over without sounding like a garbage disposal.

To get at the reference sensor, do I need to remove anything else? Sorry for that stupid questions, but I haven't worked on porsches much (at all). What does it look like too?
