Default Aftermarket Steering Wheel???

Hey, Guys,
How are you all doing? Missed you guys the last couple of years....

I am starting in on getting my '87 951 back on the road and cleaned up. Got her running and cleaned a lot of little things the last 4 months. Vacumm lines, blow off vavle, manual boost control, idle stabilizer, crank position sensors, fresh coolant hoses, new water pump, geesh, what else?

Well, now it is time for the interior. Even though my question does not mention it, I will ask about replacement seat covers. I was thinking about after market seats, but I am worried about long term comfort. So, I figured I would look into recovering the stock seats. Any ideas on anything wrt seats would be appreciated.

So, on to the topic of the thread, I would like to replace the steering wheel with a smaller wheel. First question is what wheels do you all experience with? How much smaller would you go? With air bags, is this a job I could tackle (I am reasonably competent mechanic)? The air bag is what concerns me.

Well, that's it for tonight/morning. Have a great day all!!!

Thanks,
Dale

The steering wheel and airbag delete are simple to tackle, follow the directions here:

As for which wheel to use, that is all personal preference. I have had the Momo Competition wheel in my car for the past 8+ years and love it.

I've got a Dino model 82 (I think) and its somewhat smaller than the 4 spoke and I've had it on 2 944s. Its great.

PS...timing belt? did you service it?

I have a Momo Pilota 2 and it's just the right size. I'd go for this one or one around that size. It's a 350mm/13.8". I got the wheel for $135 and love the leg room the flat bottom gives you and the grips are in the perfect spot.

My old wheel was a little smaller and it covered too much of the gauges and I just didn't like it much, so I got a decent wheel (finally).

I have that same wheel (the black one) On my 944 the flat bottom is very nice for extra room and the size is just right. I dont think I would want anything smaller than 350mm.

Hey, All,
Thanks for the information. I appreciate you all taking the time to help another p-lover out. And yes belts were done with the pump.
Thanks.

Riff, I like the aluminum shifter and pedals; its a nice touch and looks good with that color. I like the whole interior, actually, especially the little Porsche button.
