At first I had Kumho 711's which were absolutely horrible.
Decided to give Kumho another try and went with their ECSTA SPT which was a huge improvement, especially in wet weather.
Definitely recommend them and the price is resonable as well.

Bridgestone S02 in stock sizes (205/55/16F and 225/50/16R both N-rated) on my stock S2.
Not exactly quiet, but stick like a burr to a blanket, and are brilliant in the wet.
When they DO reach limits of adhesion, they slide rather than snap.
BUT ...
1) you MUST get the N-rated version, the non-N is rubbish (and tread is narrower).
2) They are no longer available, so 1) doesn't matter. :-)

Scott, its cool about the rant -
I wrote the post in a hurry and I was way too broad in my finger pointing as you carefully showed.
However that said, Ive had some experience working with some guys that are actually testing tire capabilities during some internships. I am running Yokohama's on my 944 right now and they are great, BUT I have seen plenty of foreign off-brand sport tires that tested quite poorly in machine performance tests, so I KNOW that SOME of these tires arent all they are advertised as, even though I do not have the buying, racing and tuning experiences you probably do.

You are right - there are many off-brand tires that are of questionable quality. When I am asked for advice regarding tires and which tire to purchase, I always ask several questions first and then only recommend a name brand that I would consider buying myself.
As always..... YMMV.

Anyone with Nitto experiences?
I'm considering Nitto NeoGen VR's in 205 50 16.
They get great reveiws, but then again they are designed for the sport compact community so I don't know how reliable the sources are for the reveiws.
Price is great at $78 per tire so I'm curious.
For now I sport Goodear RS-A's on my car 205 55 16, and Pirelli P-6's 205 55 16 on her car. Both are good all around tires in my opinion but the GY's are pricey and the P's just seem to be losing the battle vs. other performance tire companies.

I've run Dunlop SP 8000s, S02s, Yoko ES100s, and Bridgestone RE750s. I found SP 8000s to be loud and generally underwhelming. The S02s were quite good, although somewhat loud. The ES 100s are also loud, but grip OK. I did one DE weekend with them and was not impressed, but they were fine and wore very well.
By far the best of the four, though, were the RE 750s. They are quiet, perform as well as any of the others on the street and wear well. In DE, they are better than the ES 100s and not dissimilar from the S02s. They do tend to wear more on the track, though.
