I also had a Fiero GT (1987) as mentioned earlier, and it was a fun car. Too bad they didn't offer a smallblock chevy v8 like the aftermarket kits have....damn fast car then. My buddy was at bodyshop school and a guy had a V8 Fiero...it needed wheelie bars since when you dropped the clutch the fronts would lift like a foot off the ground. No ****.
Great thread!

A great engine swap for the Fiero is a modified 4.9 Cadillac V8. Stock, they are built to produce only low to mid range power. But they are balanced and built well enough to run 6,000+ rpms easily. There are several on the Fiero list that easily run to 7,000 rpms. It's all aluminum, with very small cast iron heads, so the assembled motor actually weighs less than even the cast iron 2.5 L4 motor.
There's a place you can send the heads off to, to have huge valves put in and it will actually be able to take advantage of that rpm.
Of course, you could always get yourself an 88 Formula with the improved suspension, and drop a 2.4 VVT Ecotec or a 2.0SC VVT Ecotec into the back along with a 5-Speed getrag. That's pretty sweet.
