Where's that hot air coming from?
There seems to be a steady gust of warm air entering the cockpit, mostly through the centre console. It's definitely not the heating system, nothing's coming from the vents. I feel it most of all from gaps in the pocket thingy below the stereo. Also, I noticed the shifter boot gets extremely warm.
Now, I know the hatch seal at the back is bad and leaks pretty seriously; I also know there's a seal that runs between the firewall and the hood, and I suspect it's bad too. Could the air be coming in as a result of that hood seal? Or is there something else going on?
I'd love to take care of this ... summer's coming! Plus the cockpit has a definite engine-type perfume going on.
Advice?

Yes. You need to take the weight off the mounts in order to swap them.
Another cause for the heat could be air from under the car blowing past the exhaust/hot torque tube and entering your shifter through worn out foam. That's how mine was

Btw, He's right, that could be a big contributor, especially with the warm shift boot syndrome

That's normal, Same thing on my 928, Crumbled to hell
My 944 didn't even have that foamy crap on it's hood, and i'm glad too! that Ish clogs the air filters as it flakes off
I recommend just scraping the rest of it off and replacing it with dynomat

My 84 also seems to get a nice little draft of warm air in the car. I'm getting ready for new motor mounts so hopefully the problem will go away with the new mounts.... i also have a leaky rear hatch, and the shifter area gets warm, but theres nothing like revving the car out with the windows down!..and for a solution to the rear hatch problem..just put a couple towels down where it leaks and dont drive it in the rain
