That's how far my odometer worked this time. I am getting tired of it crapping out every time I "fix" it. Ideas? On the bright side, I can pull a dash cluster faster than any stereo thief!

No, every time I open the speedo, it is fine. It is a new gear. I just align the numbers, ensure the gear is engage, and re-assemble. It works for a while, then just stops. I don't re-set it, I just let it run....maybe my car doesn't want to age.

I just had mine stop at about 500 miles after fixing it. Took it apart last night and nothing was broken, but the gears had jammed up. I had thoroughly cleaned the bits of broken gear out of everything the first time so I knew that wasnt what was jamming things up. So I had read what AR10 said about wire in another thread so I got to looking at how far the main number wheel could slide side to side. There was enough play that the gear on the end of the wheel could be slid away from the white gear driving it. So after I adjusted the mileage a bit (actually I added the miles that I put on the car while the odometer was broken) I slid the number wheel back into the correct position. Then I got a twist tie from a loaf of bread, stripped off the plastic and wrapped it around the axle on the side of the wheel opposite of the gear, between hundred thousand wheel and the white plastic speedometer housing. Bread tie wire was the thinnest wire I had available and it holds its form easily. The wire keeps the wheel with the gear on the end from slipping away from the driving gear. I didnt want to use too thick of wire for fear it would bind up the whole assembly and break the plastic gear I paid $25 for. It has worked for 40 miles now, I think it just may hold up. I didnt do anything with the odometer gear, I figure I can hit the reset button when parked to shake that loose if it jams there.

I have to admit I did what I could without disassembling the speedometer again. I did two of them the last time and the speedometer needle was stuck on one, causing me to accidentally break the needle shaft as the needle crumbled in my hand. I didnt want that to happen again so I did what I could.

I've had mine out at least 20 times since changing my odometer gear. It would work for a little bit, then stop. I finally took the gauges out, took it all apart and cleaned the gears and everything, works great now. Make sure your harnesses are in tight.
