Why won't they put the 911 engine in the Cayman?

Lest the "lesser" vehicles outshine the invincible 911.

They should have made it for racing then :[

The 944 they ran at LeMans in '81 made like 415hp...thats a few more than the 911 turbo..

it finished 7th overall, iirc there was a wastegate problem that kept them in the pits for longer than they would have liked...thats from memory though.

What was the 924 motor that actually blew up on them? Maybe a different year? I remember Andy K telling me about one that had a huge mishap, can't remember how it went though...

I'd say 951 as well if you're looking to DE/race for fun. I don't think a 951 will be as reliable as any NA 944 (8 or 16v), but if you trailer the car in, it still minimizes the chance of being stranded/not starting when you need the car.

My uncle DE-ed his S2 at Lime Rock a couple weeks ago- said the 951s were hitting about 130 at the end of the stretch, and he was at around 105. Seeing as how S2s and 951s are in the same class for PCA, the 951 will obviously be more competitive.

If you're looking to have the option to daily drive, S2 all the way.
