Not without modification to the lower mounting holes. It's not worth it unless you got a set of very nice 86 coilovers or Koni's for free and wanted to mod them. It can also put strain on the upper mount strut bearing due to the offset differences.

What modifications to the lower mounting holes are you talking about? Are you thinking about the mod required for fitting a sealed strut to an early-offset car?
As far as I know, the struts and shocks between an '87-'89 944/S and '86-'89 951 are interchangeable. Eric could also use struts from an S2 or 968 but he would need the accompanying springs and upper hats as 944/951 springs/hats are larger diameter than S2/968 springs/hats.
I actually have a set of struts from an '87 944S [fitted with Koni sport inserts] on the front of my '86 951...no issues.
