finally got everything buttoned up, fired it up, nasty noises, hoping it was lifters, pretty sure its valve damage. checked timing, sure enough, it wasnt on anymore, and pulled covers and belt was way loose.
I think when i tightened it, the belt was not seated on the crankshaft gear, when i fired it up, it shifted and was bad news.
I only bought the car because it was cheap because the guy thought it had problems that didnt exist, specifically, the clutch, which is fine. I told myself i would keep my budget within reason, and im crossing the line i wanted to spend, since i wanted to get an S2 or a turbo isntead of an NA after i sold my first one. you know how it goes
Now, car has $400 worth of custom powdercoated parts, fresh injectors, brand new tune up parts, SS fuel lines, and other stuff that i put into it.
Was highly optioned, book full of records, FRWilk chip, sport seats, LSD 5 spd, 15" Fuch wheels etc. etc.
Thinking about parting since i can get some money back, or sell it outright for maybe $3500 and let someone else pull it away and replace the head.
i have a feeling most people are going to think i should save it, i understand, but thats why im willing to sell the thing outright for someone else to deal with.
Opinions?

Buy a used cylinder head (no more than $200) and put it on. That will increase the value of the car and make it alot easier to sell.
If you do decide to part it out...put me first in line for the transmission.

i figure not many people would want a non running car for that either, but I was already just down to the head, put everything back on... doing it all over again for a car i didnt plan on getting, or keeping for more than a year just makes my stomach churn, I think i'll have to sleep on it

Consider it a slight investment then, you could probably get another $1000 ontop of the $3500 your asking outright if the car is running.. So figure your earning yourself an extra $800 for two days work (if that).

Get that head rebuilt. Get some used valves, new seats, guides and take it (send it) to a head rebuilder. I had my Turbo head redone for $200, I supplied the parts. I thinik it was around $325 after it was all said and done.
