Question Help! 968 cabrio trunk stuck

Hi Guys, need your help....

Unfortunately i have had to store the 968 over the last few months in a place with no power and the battery has gone completely flat, so the trunk wont open with the internal switch...

not a problem i hear you say, just turn the key in the trunk lock... BUT, the key is not unlocking the trunk...

How can i open the trunk when the key doesnt work and the battery is totally flat????

Your help is much appreciated!!!

Is it a problem of the key not being the right one? or it's sticking? It's possible that a little bit of rust has developed. When storing a car long term, you really want to grease all of the hinges and latches before you put it away.

It might be that your only option is to take the battery home, charge it, and try hooking it up again. Another thing though, it's NOT a good idea to store a car with the battery plugged in either, this will speed up the rust between dissimilar metals on all of your wiring contacts and leads. I know it resets the ECM and the car's stereo, but it's still better that happen, than damaging your car.

If your car is sitting on concrete, make sure that the ground is insulated. If not, you could have moisture coming up from underneath the car. Luckily our cars are galvenized, but just to be safe, if I have to store a car for long periods, I put plastic down underneath it. This is an amazing water / vapor barrier.

Hope that helps somewhat???

In the driver side door jam there is a vent. In the vent should be a wire that is connected to the latch, pull it and it will open your trunk. Good luck.

how about climbing in the trunk/hatch and pull down the carpet and manually turn the arms to release the hatch.

+1 -- but in your case, it might be on the passenger side (left-hand side) due to RHD vs LHD differences.

Even though the battery is in the back of the car, there should still be some jumping posts in the engine bay. If you could get to those and can hook up another battery to jump start the car, you should be good to go.

The battery is located in the trunk in the RHD cars, so he needs to open the trunk before he can get to the battery.

Not sure but, could you jack up the car and charge the battery from the starter connections?

^ +1 The 968 cabs have a piano wire in the door jam vent(car side not door), there is a small tab on the top of the vent; when pulled down a bit the vent can be removed and the wire pulled

Thanks for all your replies!!! I'm going to try to chstart the car from the battery jump poins in the engine bay (didnt think of that...) If not, then the wire in the vent will definitely be the next attempt!!!

Cheers!!!
