I got the shorter of the 2.5in series, 40941 is the PN.

If it was strickly a track car I would keep it, but my dad could hear me get on it a half mile away while he was sitting in the family room. I'm going to get a Dynomax Bullet muffler and use that in the cat location. I like the sound, but i really don't need any more attention from the popo.

yeah that's def understandable. Is the Dynomax a cheapy muffler? I've never heard of it, but then again, when it comes to Porsches, I haven't heard of a lot of things...

yeah summit sells the bullet for about 40 bucks. With my whole setup, I'll have spent $200 and learned a lot about welding. To me its way better than buying one for $600

Dynomax is actually a pretty good brand, they're pretty big in the muscle car world. Bursch uses a Dynomax muffler in their cat-back system.

Wow $40 is a steal, espesh since it's not actually gonna be the deciding factor for the sound of the system.

I agree Dan, I'll be doing your route when I get the money. Where'd you buy your XR-1 from? Would you mind posting a vid of your car as it is now? Then, w/ the premuff ( ) when you get it?

My SFR clips on the 1st page for my 84 are a Borla SFR system (2.5" stainless). It's a great muffler, and I've heard they aren't that loud on a turbo. On the NA it'll set off car alarms without even trying.

Dan Shea - is that with or without a cat?

so how about a muffler that is direct replacement...

NA pipes are 2 1/4" stock i believe, and i couldnt find a borla center in/ center out being 2 1/4". wouldnt hurt nothing to slip on two 2 1/2- 2 1/4 adapters right? when i was under my car, my muffler has a hole rusting through, so i was just looking at options

Sorry i haven't followed up here...

If you really want the borla sound just get the 2.5in one and get a reducer to go from 2.25in to 2.5in.

I ended up getting a dynomax bullet through my local napa connection, it is basically a glorified glasspack. By glorified i mean stainless steel and not red.

I got the Borla from summit, for like 150 iirc. Plus I got a free hat, .

As for the sound now with the dynomax and the borla I have a nice deep idle and an almost stock sound level. When the car revs it really comes alive. Before the mufflers were broken in it had a VERY slight honda/tuned 4 banger sound combined with a burbly V8. Now that its starting to break in I'm loosing the honda sound and more of a distinct porsche sound. (actually an older 911 drove by my house the other day and it sounded exactly like my car). The car is still quiet loud too, the other day driving through a parking lot i set off a car alarm . Its really neat though cause if I'm driving hard the car is loud, but if i baby it i can keep it quiet and not draw any extra attention from the red and blue. Hopefully I described it well enough.

I will try to take a video of it either tomorrow or the day after, but it will be really poor because i will have to use a digital camera as i don't have a camcorder.

Ok I took some video with my roomates digi cam. the audio is kinda beat, has no bass. but you'll get the idea. Oh and the car is nice and warm...

ERROR: If you can see this, then Google Video is down or you don't have Flash installed.

All the mods have been previously listed, but basically its 2.5in header back with a dynomax bullet in place of cat and a borla xr-1 muffler

Mmmmm that is exactly what I was looking for. I like your description you gave so I think I'm gonna go your route. It makes sense to me that turbos are a bit quieter, correct? I want it very bassy at idle but quiet, and when shifting smoothly and calmly. But when I step on it, I want it to sound like a damn race car.

yah thats pretty much how it works. if you drive slow you can keep it within reason, but when you romp on it you get the noise.
