Default Battery removal and/or new battery question

So my battery is dead. Stupid question but, how do I get the freakin' thing out? There's a bolt that seems to be holding it in but I can't get a wrench down in there good enough to turn it. Does it take a deep socket? I used a 13mm one that was the right size, but wouldn't go onto it good enough.

And if I need to replace the battery, what kind or size do I need to get? It currently has a Sears battery of some ilk in it. It doesn't look like a big battery would fit in it.

Thanks for any help

Yup, should be a deep 13mm, then that little piece of metal will come out as you pull the battery out. I got my new battery at Walmart, for a lower price than the local Autozone. I found it odd that Walmart would have a battery for my 24 year old Porsche, but just a few years ago, they didn't have anything that fit my Acura (or even a Honda Civic for that matter).

Well I thought it was a 13, just wouldn't go down far enough to get it turning. I'm sure I have one deep enough. Guess I'll have to go buy a set of them.

There's really nothing special about the 944 battery size. Consumer Reports rated the DuraLast at Autozone and Interstate battery among the best; Sears DieHard and Kragen Exides were among the worst. I've had great luck with the Duralast brand in 3 different cars. My Exide was pure crap, lasted 1 year and then another one only 14 months in my Q45. The DuraLast has been going strong now for over 2 years.

Ive had the same exact Duralast battery for the last 5 years or so and have not had any problems. I just fill it up with distilled water every once in a while. Originally had it in my 924S, sold the car and swapped the battery into my 944. Never had problems with it cranking in very cold temps (at or near zero).

I recently switched to a lightweight Odyssey battery for sake of weight reduction, i swap the old Duralast in for the colder months though. Infact i left the Duralast outside for probably 6 months before i swapped them for the season, car fired right up when it was put in...no slow cranking or anything.
