I have the similar 968 header on my track car, it's a nice setup. Did you go with the Stage II chip as well?

It will be interesting to see what gains you get from this exhaust + MAF + Maxtronic + 67mm throttle body.......

What performance gains are you supposed to get, and what is it made of? How does it compare to SFR's header?

Unconfirmed reports are that the Stahl header is the only header that makes hp on 8v NA cars. Rumors are 5-8hp. Some stories are maybe 2-3 peak, but 8 in the upper mid range (ie 5000 rpm).

It is one major reason only stock headers are allowed in 944 spec. Costs run somewhere near $650. So expensive, but it just maybe on the of few bolt ons that make hp on the 8v NA cars. Not sure how it will work on the 16v 2.5L motor.

it's expensive to eek a few more HP outta these cars. They were designed pretty well from Porsche.

well except for the balance shaft/ timing belt waterpump issue.

Did you get the 1 5/8, 1 3/4, or 1 7/8" size-and why did you choose the one you ended up with?

Well Porshce spent alot of time doing "bolt ons" when it converted the 928 V8 in to the 944 4 cylinder. There are a number of items in the head and bottom end design that don't help make hp. In fact on reason we can't rev past 7k in most cases is from this "low RPM" V8 origin. In V8 form hp was made from displacement rather than rpms and efficient design. Fine for a motor twice the size.

When Porshce make the 944 they kept the same basic V8 architecture and that is really the limiting factor. Things like head design, combustion chambers, valve size & valve train and even bottome end compoenent size & oiling. All of these are carry overs from the 928 V8. So went it came time to get the 944 to its hp target Porsche went and did the now standard hot rod tuner tricks.
IE... cold air intake and headers. So that is one reason it is so hard to "improve" on Porsche since they factory hot rodded it. Unfortunalty all that is left is alot of internal work which is very hard to develop and expensive given the lower production runs of the 944 compared to other marques.
