Default Question for anyone with access to a torque tube...

I am re-assembling my torque tube ('87) and I have had a mental lapse.

I started the re-assembly two weeks ago, and had written down the measurements of the bearing locations as measured off the drive shaft. I measured the forward three bearings from one end, and the fourth bearing loction from the back. Well, I had to leave the job for a while and now I can't remember for certain if I measrued the locations for the forward bearings from where the end of the torque tube would be, or the end of the shaft is (which sticks our a fair piece from the front). I am liable to have done it either way. I have the back bearing in, and the #3 bearing part way in. I really done want to take it all apart again.

If anyone would be able to run a tape measure down the front of their torque tube to where the first bearing is, and give me that measurement to the end of the outer tube, that would be really helpful!

Thank you for looking!

It shouldn't matter that much... just pretty equally spaced.

You should also be able to see the marks on the drive shaft where the bushings were...

Couldn't find the tape measure but I just eyeballed an '89S2 tube and it's roughly 4" from the front bearing to the end of the tube.

When I rebuilt my TT I installed a 4th bearing. I put the end bearings flush with
the tube/flange juncture.

Do you mean a 5th? There are normally 4 bearings...

Thanks everyone! I know there are marks on the driveshaft, but now that the thing was half-back together I could no longer see those marks and had forgotten what frame of reference I had used for the numbers I wrote down - shaft or tube... (I sometimes get too clever for myself!!)

Default Torque tube

Just be sure that the #2 bearing is BEHIND the shifter mechanism. BTDT=no fun😀
