Early 944 wheels on late model?

Default Early 944 wheels on late model?

I'm looking for track wheels and the cookie cutters are too light not to consider. Will the pre-85 offset wheels work on a later model without spacers or such?

Early offsets don't work on late model years.

I think you can use spacers to use late offset wheels on early offset cars. But you cannot use early offset wheels on late model 944s. Hope this helps

Thanks- I don't want to use spacers on the track.

try and find someone with a early wheel near you and try it.

The difference is only ~30mm. Since its a track car, it might fit if you roll the fenders, but you wont know for sure until you try it.

I had early cookies on the rear of my 924S, technically late offset, before I installed the rear flares for a couple of days.

The rears rubbed a little, but they would have fit if I rolled the fenders.

On the fronts I already had the wide fenders, so cant say anything about that.

Ive actually read of a few people who used the cookie's on late offset cars and running alot of camber to prevent the wheels from rubbing the fender lips. The problem with this is by doing this you increase the track width of the car which is usually not legal.

You could fit 16x6 Fuch's under the fenders...but who wants a 16x6 wheel at all four corners.

I have 16x8 all around- phone dials that weigh a ton.

The 44partsandmore guy is close to me, he has an early phone dial I could try.

If you just want lighter wheels for track use, YES, the cookie cutters will fit on your late offset car but you might have to run 205/50/15 tires unless you have at least negative 3 degrees of camber in the front.

I have a 1988 944 na and am currently using EARLY OFFSET Phone Dials with 23.3mm offset and 225/50/15 Toyo RA1 tires on my car and there is no rubbing what so ever. I do have negative 3 degrees of camber in the front and negative 2 in the rear. My car is also lowered with a 944 spec suspension.

As a matter of fact for the street, I have a set of 16x7 and 16x8 EARLY OFFSET Phone Dials with 205/55/16 and 225/50/16 and it fits almost perfectly. I do get a very slight rub on the rear tires when I hit a big dip in the road on the freeway but that is because I was also carrying a set of wheels in the cargo area. I know if I go with a 205/50/16 and 225/45/16 tires, I will have no problems at all. I have not tried rolling in the fenders or anything else. No spacers required at all.

He has a 1987 944 S for a track car so I don't think he will run into any legal issues since he is not racing in any Spec Class.

No, it's a street/DE toy. Screw regulations!!

So the early wheels will increase the track width? I can live with that... if early wheels and late hubs bring the wheels in and use spacers, then I can't live with it.

A little baseball bat rolling isn't out of the question either.

I'd be giving up a lot of width on street tires but losing the weight and gaining slicks.

Not only are you increasing track width but the looks of the car is dramtically improved when the wheels/tires fit flush with the fenders.

I am running cookie cutters on my 924S right now with 215's all the way around. The rear did scrub until I put 944 fiberglass fenders on and at front wheel lock the fronts clear with about 5mm of clearence. (After putting on front 944 glass fenders)

So if Im not mistaken the 924S uses late geometry in the rear and early geometry in the front. That means your rears should fit with 215's. The fronts are hit or miss.
