Default Bottom side of battery tray access???

Hey everyone,

so in preparation for my first HPDE event in April I had the club do a tech inspection on my car...which I failed. I have all of the issues sorted out now except for one. The battery tie down.

One of the previous owners of my car apparently decided that a secure battery was not a priority, so the bolt that the stock battery clamp goes over is chopped down to almost the surface of the battery tray itself.

I need to fabricate some sort of tie down or bracket to hold the battery in place. I was thinking that if I can get access to the bottom of the battery tray, a few bolts could be placed on either side of the battery that could be used to secure a metal bracket.

Heres the dilemma, I have no idea how to get underneath the battery tray! Is this possible? I have to have access if I am going to use bolts, and I cannot see any other way to secure a bracket. If there is another solution please let me know. But if anyone knows a way to get access to the battery tray from the bottom, without cutting it out, I would appreciate the help!

Thanks!

On a stock factory car there are electronics below the battery tray, but you ought to be able to find a few places to drill and not hit anything. I'd suggest pulling the dash to do this properly.

Shoot, not what I wanted to hear. I wish there was an easier way to mount this battery.

PHP Code:
pulling the dash to do this properly
Bad advice, pull the lgove box and you will see it's pretty open back there.

The white area in the pic is plastic trash bags stuffed in by hand for initial support for a glass cloth repair, once the box is out, you'll see what I'm talking about.

I'd always rather spend the extra hour or two pulling it all the way apart for easy access than looking through a small hole and guessing.

dont drill any holes in the battery tray unless you want any water draining into the ecm. Get a bolt, take it to a muffler shop and have them weld it pointing upwards to the floor of the battery tray next to where the old one was. Then go to your local parts store and get a nut and a battery hold down braket and bolt it in the way it should be.- oh and spray paint the weld or itll rust.

ahh I totally forgot about the possibility of the bolt leaking. Part of the problem is also that the lip piece opposite of the stock bolt is broken. So I think I would have to have a bolt welded in its place as well and use a sort of upside down U shaped bracket.
