need a flatbed/trailer/dolly in socal
I was going to rent a truck and a tow dolly from uhaul, so I could buy a car in San Diego and drag it to Riverside. If anyone here has the means to tow a car, I'd rather pay you than uhaul.
I can't drive the car in question because the damaged fender rubs the spare tire on there. I was thinking of just taking the fender off and driving it home like that, but that's just begging for trouble from popos.

U haul pick up trucks goes by .40 a mile and $20 initial rental fee if I remember right but its been 10 years since I had to rent a truck from them. By the time you add the dolly rental and gas, you are looking at over $200 for about 200 miles of towing. If you are not familiar with hauling a trailer, make sure you get full insurance. My cousin totaled a uhaul trailer and my truck (why I had to rent a truck 10 years ago). Sometimes, the distance between here and there is the deterrant for buying a car. If that guy is down the street, I probably would have bought it for parts since I have a 944S with a bad engine.
With that amount, you can find a tow truck driver to do the tow for you. The last time I bought a car at an salvage auction in SD, they towed it up here for $130. However the tow service only tow out of that auction I believe.

Just post an ad on Craig's List in the Automotive Services area. I have had great success three times (can't find business cards though) with three different tow people, at much greater distances than you are needing. Be sure to include your zip codes from dest. and arriv. Michael

I've had issues with UHaul -- their computer will say clearance isn't high enough (which it is...). I always tell them I'm hauling a mid-80's Honda Civic.....
Too bad you're not in SF now. That's what the truck is for....
A 944 can also be flat-towed by removing the bumper and using it as a tow point. There's 944spec guy in Manhanttan Beach that does that. I've experimented with it, but it's uncomfortable....
