Default Tranny repairable? More bad news.

Well, Got some strange noises, and I took the car home, and left it for the night.

Got under the car, and this is what I found.

A great big gaping hole in my transaxle resovoire.

If I was to weld metal onto this, the only real purpose it serves is to hold gear oil right?

For the record, I *JUST* had this replaced and the shop broke it. AND my head gasket blew. A little strapped for cash, and that is the current status.
MESSED UP.

Thanks!
-Alex

I think the bigger questions are, how did it get there, and where is the metal piece that was there.

So they changed the transaxle for you? Did they drop it??

You can have that the hole welded up and repaired, you are correct that its just to make the box hold oil.

Pics are blurry but it looks like the piece broke from the inside out and if that is the case I'd be looking for whatever was flying around from the inside and hit the case. As far as welding the case is cast IIRC so good luck with welding that.

What the F?
How's that happen? lol..

All that part of the case is for is to make sure your oil stays on the inside of the tranny. Find a nice piece of aluminum or something and firewrench it onto the case...then fill.
