You're right.
For future reference (search engine), the statement "The 944 Turbo cups came with carbon fiber matches" is incorrect. The cup cars did not come with matches.

Right.

But interestingly enough the original term Cup car was labeled because these turbos actually did come with cup holders. Unfortunately, only the ROW cars got this option. The US DOT laws determined that cup holders in Porsches promoted very dangerous driving...especially in the instances of coffee and other hot beverages...and outlawed them in the US versions. However, the Cup car still retained it's name.

Here's a better shot of what the PO did to make my Turbo S an "S":

It's the S from a 944S, correct? It looks like it was done with care, and like I said, I was fooled until I learned the facts.

Also, readers should note that for additional weight savings, the tires on '88 Turbo S models were filled with helium.

Just checked my option sticker and I have option 141. It is crossed out so I think I have one of the rare street Turbo S cars that ken D was talking about.

No one mentioned this but what about the "SE" 944 turbo? I have seen an SE decal on a 944, but not sure if it was factory, it did look factory, like the porsche script on the rear bumper.
