Default What are original lug nuts made of?

I always thought they were aluminium but I've heard different rumors.
Can anyone shed some light into topic?

Probably billet aluminum, which is an alloy made mainly of aluminum together with magnesium and silicon. Kind of like the 944 engine block.

It's more likely they are 6061 T6, or some other kind of "off the shelf" alloy of aluminum - but, without a doubt, they are "aluminum".

OEM are alloy aluminum. For core track use you need to pick up steel lugs.

Come on, guys.....

Everybody knows that most metal parts on our cars are made of Unobtanium. That's why they all cost so much!

For any use, pickup the steel ones. The stock ones are horrible.

I just switched to the steel ones. The aluminum ones weigh next to nothing but ive heard many stories of the heads shearing off on them and destroying a wheel has you try to cut it off with a hole saw. The steel ones also have an open hat so you can check thread engagement.

I wanna switch mine to steel - my stock aluminum lugs all look to be a different color. I might as well get stronger steel matching lugs.

Where is the best place to score a full set of steel?

I got mine from Lindsey (because I was buying other stuff from them at the time anyway). I wouldnt hesitate to buy them from any of the big suppliers though (Paragon, Pelican, Lindsey, etc).

Got mine through Paragon, total cost was about $25. The steel lugs are about $1.25 each, the aluminums around $6.

And they look so nice when new also...

Your cars are all gonna be slow! Porsche knows where to cut weight to make our cars faster. And when you replace the moon metal with steel it makes me sick!

lol. Crap, for some reason I only ordered four. Now I think I need to order 40 and weight match 4 sets to the milligram.
