Default Dumb Question

Ok, now, this is probably a dumb question, and probably will get me laughed at but....
Is it possible to put an s motor in my 86 n/a 944? Or will I run into the same problems as you would swapping in a turbo, such as the 951 is basically a different car.
Thanks

you can do it... but why? a 944S only has about 15-20 more hp... if ya want to, it'll work... but, like the turbo/NA swap, it'd be cheaper to buy the other car... and less time consuming.

Say I run across a decent S2 engine, how time cunsuming would it be? A solid week of work to swap engines, wire harness, torque tube, and trans?

And for the california rennlisters, would a smog shop notice its a different engine that didnt originally come in the car? I know its easily seen if there's a smallblock V8 in there, but what about an S2 engine?

From what ive noticed, cops cant tell if the parts added to these cars are stock or not lol. Some friends are cops and they thought my parts I added were stock. It's why I thought about keeping the car N/A but with a bigger less noticeable poweplant.

An S2 swap is fairly straightforward. Less plumbing than a Turbo because it doesn't require the intercooler and all the wastegate and crossover (under) exhaust plumbing. You will have to swap out the brain and the engine wiring harness on the passenger side and all new intake plumbing on the driver's side.

S2 swap is probably worth the work, not so much for just an S variant. Best NA option is the still more advanced 968 VarioCam 16V 3.0. In either case, your basic Federale will not have any reason in the world to view the engine compartment as "non stock".

The S2 and S 16v engines are actually a bit more work to swap and get working. Thats because you need to figure out the ignition control unit wiring.

The 968 engine swap in short is stick the engine in, change the wireharness, DME and put in a Variocam computer. Splice the 12v DME wiring into the original harness, figure out where to hookup the oil cooler, get a exhaust made up and hope it starts and runs correctly. You may need to upgrade to a bigger radiator also. A few people still use the stock n/a radiator without porblems.

You also do not need to change the torque tube. I dont think you would have issues with cops as its not like its a Chevy V8 under the hood, it still says Porsche on the cam cover.. they probably wont know any better.

I would love to put in a variocam 968 engine, but its just way out of my price range. I would barely be able to get an S2 engine as it is. Only 17 yrs old here
I think i'll try and pick up a 951 after graduation and make it driveable so that I can use it as my DD while im doing the S2 swap to the '83. I'll take my time and just make myself a new wire harness if needed. Maybe the end of '07 it'll be complete.
How much does an S2 engine usually cost? And is it worth paying say 3k for a complete S2 engine, or picking up peices here and there for cheaper and putting it together?
I would rebuild the engine either way of course, just wondering which is the best way to tackle it.

Sorry to hijack your thread, maybe some of this has helped you too
