Hi,
Here is my situation. I just picked up some escort cup shocks with solid mount conversion as well as some escort cup struts. The shocks came with 500 lbs coils. From what I have been told and read, I should ditch the torsion bars and go with solid mounts in the back. I will be using the car mainly on the street and a couple of DEs. My question is what spring rate should I purchase for the front and where can I read more info. on torsion bars. All the searches simply say keep them or ditch them. I would need to run with the torsion bars until I order the right parts and free up some time to do the work. Just to get it right, I need inner/outer spring plate bushings as well torsion tube carrier solid bushings right? The car has stock sways etc. Thanks for your time.

I advise you keep your front wheel rate about the same as the rear wheel rate -- since you have 500 lb springs for the rear (assuming you do the torsion bar delete), you'll want springs that are about 66% that amount for the front. (The rear shock mount is about two-thirds of the way back on the swing arm... meaning the wheel, being farther out, has a greater moment on the spring (like using a piece of pipe on a socket wrench).)
So I'd suggest 300 or 350 pound springs for the front.
Good luck!
p.s. see my thread on the rear solid bushing conversion -- I'd suggest, at the least a replacement to the rubber spring plate bushings. The rest only do it your budget allows.

Thanks I did read your thread beforehand and it was very informative. Will the solid poly-graphite bushings from lindsey racing do the job? They go for about $60 a side for the 4 parts. The racer's edge ones are a tad out of my budget at the moment.

You mean the weltmeister bushings that hold the torsion tube caps onto the chassis?
I'll sell you mine for $25... I pushed them into the cap pieces, then decided to go with the Racer's Edge aluminum ones.
I think Racer's Edge sells delrin spring plate bushings, which are cheaper than the poly-bronze ones LR and ER (Lindsey and Elephant) sells.
I've heard that you should go to a solid spring plate bushing when you remove the torsion bars to give that spring plate a little more stability. For your application, the rest of the bushings are just gravy.
