Default Brake upgrades

I'm replacing the steering knuckle arms and tie rod ends this weekend. I started to remove the front capilary and realized that it was probaly time to replace the brake pads, etc. One thing lead to another and I'm now looking at buying a set of cross drilled rotors and new pads for the front. I don't have enough money at the moment to buy a set cross drilled rotors for the back. Could I potentially drive with only new ones on the front for maybe a month before buying a set for the rear? Also, any recomendations of what kind to get?

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother with the cross drilled rotors. Stock rotors are more than adequate for the job. There is also a heated debate these days as to the worthwhileness of drilled rotors since they reduce swept area, heat absorbing mass and have a tendancy to crack. Many people (myself included) feel that there really are no benefits to cross drilled rotors in modern cars, unless you're looking for some bling.

How are you driving the car? Is there anything in particular that makes you feel you need to upgrade or is it merely that you've got the opportunity to do it?

Yes you can replace the fronts and not the rears, always do that in pairs. Dont replace brake components by side but rather by front and rear. If you dont have alot of money cross drilled rotors might not be for you because they will wear your pads faster. If you are doing street driving, they wont hold up quite as long as a solid rotor before warping or wearing down. If you arent on the track, a new pair of solid rotors with nice pads should do just fine.

Thanks, I think that's what I needed to know. Sounds like just the stock ones will be fine.

Stock rotors, good pads and a fluid flush (if due) is really all you need to do.

Even on the track these cars are momentum cars. Lots of track guys still use stock rotors just with better pads and fluid.

Ive used plain non drlled or slotted rotors on every car Ive drin on a track. Never been a problem. The best way to increase your brakes performance is to get better tires.

Im actually going through the same thing right now and after a few searches I will be getting stock rotors. What would you reccomend as a really good daily driver/ canyon running/ AutoX Pad? 99% driven on the street but I desire the best.

My car is doing double duty occasional street/track and as a compromise I went with Hawk HP+. Good aggressive pad but won't chew through rotors when cold on the street as I've read the Blues can.

Everyone has their preference though and I'm sure you'll get a couple more.

The HP+ squealed like a bus on every car Ive used them on. For mostly street/autox use the HPS is good and a little quieter.
