Default Rennbay odometer gear questions

How hard is it to pull the dash? And when it is pulled, how hard to install the new gear?

Thanks!

What year is your 944? The dash pull is probably easier on the early 944 (1985/1).

Pretty easy to get it out of the dash. Hardest part are the screws under the gauges and working the gauges out of the "hole" in the dash. Remove the steering wheel and mark beforehand.

Gear is easy. You'll need small screwdrivers and needlenose pliers. Clean the gear teeth real good so you don't have to take it apart twice. BTDT

I replaced my odometer gear a few months ago (late dash) and all in all, the proceedure was suprisingly easy. I think it was, maybe, a one-beer job.

well ive done mine a few times-had the gauges out- so im a pro now. It took me about an hour total to pull everything and replace the gear. Hardest part is not loosing the tiny clip that holds it on. Oh and be sure that you have the gauges plugged in correctly before you put it all back together. The plugs just push in and clip themselves- you squeeze them to release them. I had this reversed and they didnt plug in right the first two times...

The problem I have is losing the clipsdown by the turn signal and cruise control, there are two small black metal clips that give the screw something to find purchase in. Dont lose them!

I believe there are instructions on Rennbay's site as well. All in all, it's a pretty easy job. Good luck!

Just make sure you pay attention to the orientation of the needle for when you put it back on. That's the only part that really made me nervous during this whole thing!
