Question WTB: Nice Non-Airbag Dash

Does anyone have a nice all black non-airbag dash they want to sell? I have been looking for well over a year and have had no luck. I am looking for an original non cracked dash, if anyone has anything PLEASE let me know.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/pts/281797996.html Has an airbag but.... you could always just take out the airbag itself and leave the panel, right?

You also could dye the lower upholstery... from light to dark dye work is pretty straightforward I understand...

I would prefer to find one that was all black. I have done a few dye jobs in the past on other cars and it doesnt seem to last.

isnt the bottom more of an upholstery type material that can be formed and cut (like seat upholstery) than the top which is a formed layer of plastic moulded/bonded to the foam?

I'm not positive, but they look very similar if they aren't the same. Both the top and bottom use a VERY thin type of vinyl that is bonded to the foam.

Then getting a piece of upholstery and attaching it would look different. that puts the cork in the bottle for that theory.

How bad would it look if you used a piece of very thin vinyl?

Well I have been throwing around the idea of getting some leather/suede and doing the top of my dash in that, but I don't know if I can get it to make that many bends since usually its pretty thick material.

Ideally I would like to find another factory dash in great shape and just switch them out.

Do you know how much they wanted for it? They usually want a LOT for their parts.

i was thinking more along the lines of getting the one with the black top and linnen bottom, then upholstering the bottom. There are kits for the top, but that is a job i didnt want to try. The bottom with some vinyl in a real close pattern is something I could handle.

If you are going to refinish your top, I would go with a dash cap. My only suggestion having been there is do it with either the dash or windshield out of the car.
