Default Little help

Im prity sure the clutch in my car is dead. When i was driving got to a stop sign and stoped took of not going fast at all hear a clunk and the car stops. I take it in and out of gear let the clutch out slowy and theres a relly loud grinding sound. i think its the clutch becuse it was over 100k miles on it. So the question is i need a new one i would be doing the work myself can anyone recomend a good kit. Im a highschool student and dont have alot of money, but i would still like something a little racer then the stock one.

Aw man that sucks. I'll need to do mine in the near future. Check out www.clarks-garage.com for the process. Some guys on here have done it recently, am sure they will chime up in the morning.

is this your daily driver right now?

What year is your car?

Could be the transaxle. You might want to consider having someone take a look at it before you start ordering clutch parts.

You are correct in the first part of your sentence. But the last part about getting a 951 trans is baaaad. You don't want a 951 trans in a 8V 944 N/A. If you think your car is slow now, you could time your 0-60 time with a sundial if you put the 951 trans in there. The gearing is simply too tall.

If you replace the trans, go for an early one; any other tranny has taller gears which will only slow you down.

Although changing the clutch would be a good idea after 100k, you might want to check for leaking brake fluid. I was driving to the gym one morning and suddenly when I hit the clutch it fell flat to the floor. My master cylinder had blown a gasket, so I had to tow the car home and replace the master and slave cylinders.

I'd hope its the cylinders, because those are ALOT (read: A FORKING HELL OF ALOT) cheaper and easier to replace than clutches or trannies.

yeah i dont know what im going to do the car has some body damage and now this. I think im going to buy a new one iv spent about a total of 3,500 on this one and now with this problem i dont even know if its worth fixing.

How much do you think a running early n/a would cost i mean i could put basicly all the parts and upgrades from mine onto that.

That is incorrect. The gearing for all 83-89 944 8V transmissions is basically the same, with the exception of a shorter 5th gear on the 88 and 89 models.

Since you have an early car any 8v N/A trans from 83-89 will fit. I would go with an 88 or 89 if it were me due to the shorter 5th and the fact that they seem to grenade less than earlier ones. Plus they are newer. Of course, the lower the mileage the better (generally speaking).

I wouldn't get an S trans.

Oh, I meant to say turbo/S tranny by "newer"..oops.

As for buying another car, you can find a relatively decent one for under 5k and use your current one as a parts car if you like. Or, part out the one you have now and make enough to buy a nicer 944 or 951 if you choose to stay on "the dark side". The parts off your early car are individually worth more than the car as a whole; hell, I might even be interested in some of them.

Depending if the car has been relatively well maintained you might get 5 or 6k. As for parts, I'm primarily looking for another transaxle but since yours seems to be shot, that's out of the question.

I might be interested in sunroof parts, possibly your ignition coil.
